How to wear it: Juliet Angus

Chicago-born Juliet Angus is fashion’s preeminent renaissance woman. As well as starring in the hilarious reality-TV show Ladies of London, she's a celebrity stylist and one of the big voices on the blogging scene. We talked to her about island dinners under the stars, the riviera of the Midwest and how to travel in style.

What was your all-time greatest trip and what made it so special?

I’m not a cruise person, yet ironically, they were both boat trips. The first has to be Semester at Sea, a programme I did in university. We started a 100-day journey in the Bahamas and went around the world to South America, India, Africa, Asia and ended up back in Seattle. We studied and had classes on the boat between ports. I was able to see the world at 22 years old and receive credits for university. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. That is until I heard about The World – the only privately owned residences at sea. We bid on a week’s stay in one of its cabins at a charity auction, donated by one of the residents. The ship circles the world every year on different routes – as an owner you can hop on and off anytime throughout the year. We boarded in Sri Lanka, cruised to Indonesia and ended our week in Singapore. It was six-star living and just like being on your own private yacht. The service, food and experience were all incredible.

Which is your favourite hotel and what makes it so great?

The Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru in the Maldives, which is perfect for families. There’s a white powder sand bar on which you can walk far into the ocean with turquoise water on both sides, while the Blu Beach restaurant makes you feel like you are literally eating in heaven. It does private dinners on the beach at night under the stars – which are adorably romantic – and shark feeding at night off the dock, which the children love. Don’t worry, they are lemon sharks that luckily don’t like to eat humans! It also has an ocean rescue centre for sea life rehabilitation. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting when a turtle is released back into the ocean, it is a magical moment.

What is your favourite city to visit and what’s your secret insider tip?

Chicago. It’s home, it’s where I grew up. Go during the summer. Sitting alongside the river at Pizzeria Portofino or Gibsons Italia, you feel like you’re on the riviera of the Midwest. The Lollapalooza music festival always has fabulous line-ups and an awesome atmosphere.

What are your travel essentials?

The Juliet sunglasses in collaboration with Féroce. And a Juliet necklace in collaboration with Anisa Sojka, as it’s always a good idea to accessorise, day or night. The Wicker Wings x Juliet bag is summer’s must-have essential. Also pack a good sunscreen – Ultra Violette or EltaMD, and an oversized Frankie Shop blazer because you never know when you’re going to get cold. And finally, an Eres swimsuit, which never goes out of style.
