The Superocean, which, as you might expect, is part of the ‘sea’ collection, debuted in 1957. It was designed with the purpose of stripping back all but the essential, lifesaving functions of a diving watch to give underwater explorers the most streamlined and clear-cut experience possible. And while the Superocean watches of today have moved on somewhat, what remains of the original are its clean lines, chunky, highly legible indexes and high-contrast dial ring.
The Superocean is shock, sand and saltwater resistant, and can withstand underwater depths of up to 1000 metres. When you’re down there, it’s easy to read thanks to an abundance of glowing Super-LumiNova detailing, and there is a lockable, bi-directional bezel to ensure your time in the deep is tracked accurately.
But the Superocean is far from just a technical watch – this is practicality and style at its best. Over the years it has seen plenty of iterations including a collaborative edition with surfer Kelly Slater, bronze-detailed versions and an array of vibrant colours that define beach style. This one, though, with its sizable 46mm case, black rubber strap and contrasting dial, is the essence of the Superocean and will see you from work to weekend adventures on the coast.
