In an increasingly digital world and with AI seemingly lurking around every new corner, one might think that launching a print magazine would be a slightly misguided venture, but that’s exactly what we’ve done! In fact, we’ve done it precisely because of digitisation – print magazines have a uniquely visceral appeal, one that demands a much more focussed interaction than online. In writing about the world, we always seek people who can really get under the skin of a place, and colour it with local knowledge, and in effect that’s why we’ve launched a magazine – to give you more of that ‘feel’ of a destination.
As you probably know by now, we are a collective of writers, photographers, stylists and fashion designers, all of whom share a love of travel and grew up crisscrossing the world with battered copies of Lonely Planet in our backpacks. Many of us cut our teeth in the world of consumer magazines so we are extremely passionate about the joy, beauty, and functionality they can bring. Part of the fun of going on holiday is the planning. In fact, a 2021 study conducted by the Institute for Applied Positive Research found that 97% of respondents report that having a trip planned makes them happier. And so the aim of the new magazine is to catalyse and pour fuel on your desire to visit parts of the world you may never have been to.
Within the pages, you’ll find world-class photography complementing some of the best travel and style writing. Fashion and lifestyle is interwoven throughout because we believe that to travel well is to create lasting memories (and looking like a million dollars tends to warrant getting the best tables at the greatest restaurants!). We’ve asked some of the world’s most renowned tastemakers and the impossibly well-heeled about their favourite places to visit, those cities and towns, or restaurants and bars that give them that uniquely warm feeling of belonging. Because it’s belonging to a place that we all seem to cherish, no matter how fleeting our trip – that sense that we are part of something greater than ourselves, moving in a tide of wonder and excitement.
If our new magazine can offer even a hint of that feeling, as well as spurring you on to a research black hole for your next holiday, then we’ve done our job!
