Perched on the cliffs of Poros, Lefkada, Oikos Nostos is a luminous retreat where modern elegance meets the untamed beauty of the Ionian Sea. Featured on The Thinking Traveller, this villa is our Rental of the Month, offering a sublime escape for up to six guests in a setting that captures the soul of Greece’s storied landscapes.

Step through the villa’s welcoming hallway into an open-plan living space that feels like a hymn to light and air. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors dissolve the boundaries between indoors and out, framing hypnotic views of turquoise waters and distant islands – Meganisi, Arkoudi, Atokos and, on clear days, Kefalonia and Ithaca. The design is a study in minimalist grace: clean lines, soft hues and uncluttered spaces bathed in Greek sunlight, cooled by clifftop breezes.

At its heart, a sleek kitchen with a central island-bar invites culinary creativity (or The Thinking Traveller can organise a chef for you, if you don’t want to lift a finger), while a marble dining table and a plush, L-shaped sofa in the living area create effortless flow. Every corner of this communal haven is oriented toward the sea’s endless allure.

The sleeping wing, reached via a quiet corridor, houses three exquisite bedrooms, each a private sanctuary with terrace access and jaw-dropping views. One features an in-room sink and an en-suite shower lit by a skylight; another boasts a walk-through wardrobe and similar airy luxury. The main bedroom, a spacious haven, offers a freestanding tub and a lavish en suite with dual sinks. A lower-level gym, accessed externally, completes the accommodation, ensuring every need is met with sophistication.

Outside, a wraparound terrace, dotted with intimate seating nooks, gazes across the Ionian’s shimmering expanse. The 20m infinity pool, paired with a hydromassage pool, seems to spill into the sea, while sun-drenched decking flows into a shaded lounge and dining area – perfect for starlit feasts or languid afternoons musing on life or plotting away. This is a place where time slows and the soul exhales.

Poros, a quaint village on Lefkada’s southeastern coast, is nearby along with Mikros Gialos beach and its crystalline waters. Lefkada itself, tethered to the mainland by a floating causeway, is an Ionian jewel, 35km long and 15km wide, where emerald mountains rise over 1,100m and white cliffs cradle beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni, both a short drive away. Its interior, laced with hiking trails and timeless villages, feels untouched by modernity. Archaeologist William Dörpfeld posited Lefkada as Homer’s Ithaca, home of Odysseus, and the nearby ruins of Nicopolis, with Roman baths and mosaics, invite exploration.

Oikos Nostos is a portal to Lefkada’s magic, and with The Thinking Traveller’s curated expertise, this retreat weaves luxury and discovery into an unforgettable odyssey.
