Sometimes the whole away-from-the-clubs vibe on Ibiza can be a bit studied. All those gauzy fabrics and wind chimes. All that determined bohemianism. But when the island gets it right, it really gets it right. Right now, the place that’s getting it right is Portinatx, a pretty little village right up in the north. Here, the sea is wild and dark, and the booming soundtrack of San Antonio might as well be on the moon. It’s round the corner from the stunning new Six Senses hotel with its farm-to-table restaurants and balcony gardens. If you can’t get a room, go for lunch at Israeli chef Eyal Shani’s brilliant HaSalon. Be sure to pack a pair of open-toed sandals and put away your phone: Portinatx is about escape and freedom and a feeling of Ibiza as it once was – and still is, if you know where to look.
